DISCOVER 05 · TRUE HAPPINESS

What is true happiness?

We want to be happy.

Almost everyone has probably felt that desire.

A secure life. People we love. Accomplishing something we have long wanted to do.

All of those things matter.

Yet sometimes, even after receiving what we wanted for a long time, a question remains somewhere inside us:

“Is this all?”

The feeling can remain.

AFTER THE GOAL

Even after reaching a goal, we can find ourselves searching for the next thing.

If I were more successful. If I had a little more money. If people valued me more.

If my relationships were better. If life were more enjoyable.

We look for happiness in many places.

Those things are not wrong in themselves.

But reaching one goal does not always make every question in the heart disappear.

“What am I living for?”

THE EMPTY SPACE

What truly fills a human life?

Work. Prosperity. Relationships. Enjoyment. Recognition. Being useful to someone.

All of these can enrich life.

And yet even with them, we may still feel an emptiness that they cannot completely fill.

Maybe what we are looking for cannot be explained only by what we possess.

THE LOST RELATIONSHIP

The Bible approaches that question through our relationship with God.

As the previous episode described, the Bible says sin broke the relationship between humanity and God.

People can appear to live without God. We can work, laugh, and love other people.

Yet Scripture says humanity has become separated from the relationship for which we were created.

When the Bible asks about the meaning of life, it begins with this lost relationship with God.

RESTORED

And the Bible says that relationship can be restored through Jesus Christ.

We do not restore our relationship with God by our own effort alone.

The New Testament says a way to God has been opened through Jesus Christ.

Recognize sin, turn toward God, and place trust in Jesus.

The Bible says a new life begins from there.

NOT THE FINISH LINE

But that is not the end of the story.

“I believe in Jesus Christ.” That can be a profound beginning.

But faith does not end at the moment we receive him as Savior.

We learn to follow Jesus, learn his words, read the Bible, pray, and try to live what he teaches in everyday life.

Faith is not a single answer. It grows into a life of walking with Jesus.

LIFE WITH JESUS

Jesus invited people who were tired.

He did not simply push them away with “Try harder.” He called the weary and burdened to come to him.

He also said that he came so that people might have life abundantly.

That is not a promise that life will become free from every difficulty.

But even in pain or uncertainty, we do not have to keep inventing the meaning of life by ourselves.

We can live today within a relationship with God.

THE NEXT STEP

Is true happiness getting everything exactly the way we want?

The Bible points toward a different kind of happiness.

A restored relationship with God, knowing who we are, and learning to live with Jesus Christ.

From that relationship, we begin to receive meaning and purpose.

We have now explored five questions: Jesus Christ, God, the Bible, sin, and true happiness.

But faith does not end with collecting information.

How do we live the words of Scripture in the life we are living now?

Continue with worship and the messages shared by the church.

These are the five questions in DISCOVER.
